Dr. Joe Mosala Molete, PhD

Dr. Bethuel SehlapeloJoe is passionate about three things: developing and working with entrepreneurs in biotechnology; helping others find their true purpose through personal coaching and motivational leadership; and promoting and sharing African, Caribbean and Jamaican music (hence, he is also known as DJ Mazoza, www.djmazoza.com).

He joined BioPAD in August 2007 as the CEO. His mission at BioPAD, among others, is to facilitate collaboration with all the local stakeholders and international partners, to establish support services for entrepreneurs and to commercialise a portfolio of biotech investments in the pipeline. Before joining BioPAD he worked for two years as a Portfolio Manager at Cape Biotech Trust (CBT) where he was part of the executive team overseeing a portfolio of 12 start-up biotech companies.

He currently serves as a non-executive director in some of the investee companies. Before joining CBT, Joe spent 12 years in the USA where he studied and worked. He worked as a Lab Manager for the Stem Cell Department at the American Red Cross in Maryland, as a Vaccine Production Technical Assistant at the International Aids Vaccine Initiative in New York, and as a Regulatory Affairs Associate for Baxter Healthcare Corporation in New Jersey.

He received both his BSc and BSc (Honours) degree in Biochemistry (1994) from The University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa; a Master’s degree in Biology (1996) from Howard University in Washington DC; a PhD in Biochemistry, Microbiology and Molecular Biology (2000) from The Pennsylvania State University in Pennsylvania; and an MBA (2007) at University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business.
