Dr. Bethuel SehlapeloThoko Majozi is an associate professor in both the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Pretoria and the Department of Computer Science at the University of Pannonia, Hungary. He obtained his PhD at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST, UK) under the Commonwealth Scholarship. His research interests involve process integration of batch chemical plants with a focus on the development of novel time-capturing techniques, heat integration and wastewater minimisation. Recently, he and his research students have started working on optimising complex continuous utility systems. He is a recipient of several scholarship awards including, Zdenek Burianec Memorial Award in Italy (2005), Exceptional Young Researcher Award (2006), NSTF Award for Outstanding Contribution in Science, Engineering and Technology (2007) and the Leading Minds Centenary Award from the University of Pretoria. He has also participated in international conferences as chairman of various sessions and serves as an international scientific committee member for the European Symposium on Computer Aided Process Engineering (ESCAPE) and Process Integration conferences, which are regarded as major chemical engineering conferences in Europe. He has more than 60 refereed technical publications. He is an NRF P-rated scientist and also a Fellow for the Water Institution of Southern Africa (WISA) and Academy of Sciences of South Africa (ASSAf). Thoko Majozi also serves on various engineering committees and boards, including being the Vice Chairman of the Professional Advisory Committee for the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and member of the board of directors for Pelchem (a division of NECSA).
